This recall is in accordance with the requirements of Transport Canada and the United States National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (NHTSA). This is a priority safety recall which needs to be completed on your Tofino.

Pleasure-Way in consultation with Spyder Controls has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2019 – 2021 Pleasure-Way Tofino Motor Homes equipped with Spyder Controls G9 Electronic Control Module (ECM) . Our records show your unit is affected by this recall.

Reason for this recall    

 The G9 ECM does not have over voltage protection greater than 18 volts, if the vehicle is given a boost with a 24 volt system or the auxiliary batteries are wired in series rather than in parallel as designed, the G9 ECM could be subject to 24 volts and would not be protected.

If the G9 ECM receives overvoltage for a continued period of time it could damage the G9 panel or create a thermal incident.  This could result in a fire causing property damage, personal injury, or death. 

Recall Remedy    

Install a G9 Protection Module supplied by Spyder Controls Corp between the battery and the G9 ECM. 

How do I comply with the safety recall, and protect my vehicle?

Follow Steps 2 and 3 below, and get the G9 Protection Module installed by an RV service center.

Step 3

Book a Service Center Appointment

After completing Step 2, and receiving the G9 Protection Module, please book an appointment with a dealer or service center, and have the Module installed. Pleasure-Way service centers can be located online at https://pleasureway.com/shopping-tools/locate-a-dealer/ . We encourage the use of Pleasure-Way service centers, however, but the you may book an appointment with any service center of your choice. Module installation completes this process, and the RV service center billing will close out the recall for your Tofino and its specific VIN number.

Questions and Answers

Am I required to complete this recall?

This is both a Transport Canada and a United States NHTSA safety critical recall, and is required to be completed. If it is not completed within the recall period, any subsequent damage may be the sole responsibility of the RV owner. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, but want to assure your safety, and the safety of your Tofino.

When do I need to complete the recall?

Because of the safety nature of the recall, we recommend that it be completed as soon as possible, within the next 90 days.

Is my Tofino safe to drive?

Yes! Under normal circumstances, there should be no issue with either your Tofino’s electrical system, and it should maintain normal voltages for a 12 volt system.

 

What RV service center should I use?

We recommend that you take it to the Pleasure-Way dealer/service center. A list of Pleasure-Way dealers can be found at: https://pleasureway.com/shopping-tools/locate-a-dealer/ .

If you are not able to use a Pleasure-Way service center, you may use any RV service center of your choice. A non-Pleasure-Way affiliated RV service center may not be familiar with the recall, but should be able to complete this simple upgrade for you when you provide them the G9 Protection Module (and attached service center instructions).

Is there any cost to me?

There is NO COST to the RV owner for the module or for the service center installation. The G9 ECM Manufacturer (Spyder Controls) will pay the service center for the installation cost. Service center instructions and reimbursement details are provided with the part which will be shipped to you.
